New Home Community Show


On October 18th the Home Builders Association Sales & Marketing Council held a New Home Community show at the Coastline Convention Center. Ashton Place was there with a nice-looking booth called "Come see what's POPPIN'."

Grand Opening Event


Ashton Place held its official Grand Opening Luncheon on October 28th at the brand new model home. Roads have been completed, the development is pristine, and the entry gate is in place.

Brunswick County adds more convenient, affordable homes with Ashton Place

If scouting for a reasonably priced home, Ashton Place is worth a look. Ashton Place homeowners are excited about where they live and are telling all their friends about this new Leland development—and now the friends are buying homes in the neighborhood.

Jeff and Elizabeth Wallace told a friend, who moved in just doors away. The Wallaces, newlyweds for less than a month, looked for a home for more than a year before stumbling upon Ashton Place.

"It was the only place open after 5 p.m.," Jeff said of the Ashton Place model. When he was driving through the area, he found the open model, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday—and then some.

The Wallaces had looked at many developments before they decided to build at Ashton Place, a 97-homesite neighborhood built by Brookside Homes. Before spring had sprung, the couple had decided to buy in Ashton Place and before they wed in September, they were able to move in.

"It was fairly easy with Page," Elizabeth said. She is a Wilmington native who works as a medical assistant for New Hanover Medical Group in Ogden.

Brookside convinced the Wallaces with its "I squared" program of "What you see is what you get." The Brookside Web site explains the program:

This is why our homes include "I Squared" (It's Included) amenities each market desires, minimizing the need for upgrades.

"There is a choice of options and selections," Jeff said of the range throughout their new home. The Wallaces appreciate the high level of finish to a Brookside home that might be an extra at another development. Elizabeth points to the 42-inch cabinets as one example of the high standard.

In Ashton Place, there are nine models available, each with its own distinct look and its own two-car garage. They range from an approximately 1,400-square foot, three-bedroom, two-bath The Hewletts Creek (priced at $179,500) to the over 1,700-square foot, four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath The Howe Creek (priced at $209,500).

"One of the unique factors of this community is its price point," said Brad Hunter, a Realtor/broker with Brookside Realty Group.

The neighborhood has a "unique street appeal," Robertson explains. "There is a different look and feel; each home features a different look." It also is a gated community with streetlights and sidewalks. What Roberston calls "high-end affordability."

"Value, value, value," said Hunter—seven of the nine plans are priced under $200,000.

"It is quiet around here," said Jeff, who works for ABC Studios with the show "Army Wives." Jeff also mentioned the shade, which has managed to keep their electric bill low.

"With the building process, we didn't have to worry," Elizabeth said.

Robertson definitelywants the process of buying an Ashton Place home to be easy. After initially meeting for this story, he followed up with an e-mail to stress some of the benefits of Brookside Homes and Ashton Place.

"One other thing I thought was relevant and worth mentioning. Despite the economic situation, there are a number of mortgage vehicles available to buyers in this price range. Some 100 % loan mortgages still exist and many exist at 97% loan to value. We have access to NC Housing Finance, USDA Rural Development, FHA, VA and Conventional Mortgages. Buyers also should not forget the $7,500 Housing Stimulus Tax Credit. They need to contact us so that our approved mortgage lenders can explain to them all of the options currently available," Robertson wrote.

Wendy Pate, a chemist with AAI Pharma, moved into Ashton Place in June.

"I liked the basic floor plan. It is nice the way it is. It's more house for the money," Pate said. And, like the Wallaces, she appreciated that the Brookside Homes included many high-level standards. When she looked at six other communities, she felt that often she would like a home, then learn that the homes were full of upgrades. "The price would be ridiculous because of the upgrade prices," she said.

Pate, a Wilmington native, has enjoyed working with Robertson. "He is really concerned about making a nice home, not making a lot of money," she said. She was also impressed that he recognizes her parents when they come to visit her at Ashton Place.

"I love the drive to Wilmington," Pate said. "Wilmington is beautiful from [the Brunswick] side and I feel better being here." She gets to work faster, as well.

At one community, Pate said, she considered buying a home with an attic that had room for Christmas bows. When she arrived at Ashton Place, she was amazed as she noted her large new attic had flooring, was somewhat finished, including a light—and room for more than just bows.

"It was unexpected," Pate said, happily.

To find Ashton Place, from Wilmington, on Highway 17/74 take the first Leland exit, at the light take a right onto Village Road and drive towards the second stop light taking a left onto Olde Fayetteville Road. Follow along for 2.8 miles. Ashton Place is on the left.
